LEF Palooza
Saturday, March 24, 2012
@ Litchfield Intermediate School
LEF Palooza was a day of fun for the whole family (bouncy house, face painting, ropes course, and a chance to start your own garden and a LEGO building station). This was an opportunity to showcase projects that have been funded by LEF over the years.
LEF (Litchfield Education Foundation) promotes excellence and innovation in public education throughout the entire Litchfield community. Since LEF began in 2004, hundreds of students have benefitted from projects supported by grants. These are projects that make a real difference for students, but cannot be funded by the schools' operational or capital budgets. Projects that might not have happened without the financial support of LEF. LEF has also supported programs outside of the Litchfield public schools, awarding grant funding to the Oliver Wolcott Library and the Litchfield Historical Society for children's educational programs.
In the past years, some of those granted included:
1. Bouncing Babies, Story Time to Go and Maritime Programs at Oliver Wolcott Library
2. Electronic Smart Boards for all of the Litchfield Public Schools
3. Solar Panels at Litchfield High School
4. Ropes Course at Litchfield Intermediate School
5. Weather Stations at Litchfield Center School
6. Unique Student Art Tiles at Litchfield Center School
7. Cemetery Mapping of the East Cemetery for the Litchfield Historical Society
We have grant funding available and we encourage members of the community to join the journey and "get on the bus" with us.
LEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and all money awarded is raised by a dedicated Board of Directors and by private donations from the public. To date, we have funded more than 70 grants totaling more than $110,000.

It all starts with your generosity!
Our journey begins again as we look to discover new and innovative programs and tools to supplement the Litchfield Public Schools and community organizations in Litchfield.
The mission of the LEF is to promote excellence and innovation in public education and in the community. Our organization was formed by Litchfield residents to create a more dynamic school-community partnership. We believe that strong community involvement is fundamental to the success of our school system.
The Litchfield Education Foundation is an exciting organization formed to create a more dynamic school-community partnership. We believe that enthusiastic community involvement is fundamental to the success of our school system. If our schools are to be true centers of learning, local support is critical.
Our mission is to promote excellence and innovation in public education throughout the entire community. The Litchfield Education Foundation hopes to give both students and teachers the opportunity to explore creative avenues by supplying them with funds to supplement learning curriculum that the normal school budget cannot accommodate.
Our Goals
- To provide teachers with grants to create innovative programs and bring new learning opportunities into the classroom.
- To fund unique capital projects to foster exciting learning possibilities.
- To link public schools with the people, organizations and resources in our community.
The Litchfield Education Foundation is non-political, non-partisan and not for profit. As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. The Litchfield Education Foundation Board of Directors represents a cross-section of educators and community-minded individuals.
The Litchfield Education Foundation works in partnership with the school system, but is a separate entity. We do not replace or compete with parent-teacher organizations. Rather, we augment the work of existing groups.
The Litchfield Education Foundation takes an active and independent role in reviewing and approving grant applications.
